Mines and Minerals Minister PAUL KABUSWE says there is need to harness maximum benefits from the exploitation of critical Minerals.

Mr. KABUSWE says the country’s Mineral resources must benefit the people and that there must be a win-win situation with countries where resources are exported.

The Mines Minister said this at the first meeting of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States -OACPS- experts on critical raw materials in Lusaka.

And United Nations Development Programme -UNDP- Resident Representative JAMES WAKIAGA said the current growth in demand for critical Minerals provide an opportunity to use the Mining boom to advance sustainable development and reduce poverty.

Mr. WAKIAGA who was represented by UNDP Economic Advisor DOMINGOS MAZIVILA said tmore needs to be done to upscale people and provide jobs so that a bigger share of the mineral wealth remains with the mineral producing countries.

Meanwhile, European Union Deputy Head of Delegation PETRA GASPAROVA said that the extractive industry has the potential to play a key role in lifting people out of poverty if appropriately managed by attractive sustainable investment that generate jobs.
