DEPOLITICISING THE MAIZE CROP-ECL

June 21, 2019June 21, 20198By ZANIS:President Edgar Lungu says there is need to come up with measures that will help in depoliticizing the maize crop.President said this in Lusaka when former Millers Association of Zambia -MAZ- Chairperson Peter Cottan and his business associate, Dominic Kabanje called on him at State House.He further noted that there is need to strike a balance that will satisfy farmers, buyers and the millers.The President stated that the future of the country’s food security lies in the production of more maize.And Mr. Cottan observed private buyers are selling the commodity to millers at a higher price, a situation which is consequently causing the rise in mealie meal prices.Mr. Cottan and Mr. Kabanje have come up with a document that will provide guidance to government on how to improve food security in the country.
