Denying Biti asylum was violation of international duty – NAREP

The National Restoration party (NAREP) has described the recent decision by the PF Government to deny political asylum to Zimbabwe’s MDC Alliance senior member Tendai Biti as an error and a violation of international obligation.

NAREP spokesperson Bwalya Nondo tells Q-news that government’s decision has dented the country’s image considering that Zambia is known to be a peaceful country that shelters refugees from other African countries.

Mr Nondo says government should therefore apologise for its decision to send Mr Biti back to Zimbabwe.

He says there is need for the PF government to respect international law.

Mr Nondo states that government should have instead allowed Mr Biti to proceed to a second country of his choice to seek asylum rather than sending him back to Zimbabwe.

He says the decision by government is regrettable and should not be repeated.
