Immediate past president of the Zambia chamber of commerce and industry –ZACCI- Michael Nyirenda has expressed concern over delays in the actualization of the 300 megawatts importation of power from south Africa.

Zambia was slated to start the importation of power from Eskom of South Africa on 1st October 2019 at a cost of us$21 million for six months but announced a day before the due date that importation will be delayed.
According to ZESCO limited acting company managing director, Webster Musonda, some proposals that have been made to the energy regulation board will need to be finished before imports can commence.

But Mr Nyirenda tells phoenix news that the lack of clarity on the matter creates further anxiety among economic players as they do not know when and whether the importation of power will go ahead or not.

He said government should quickly give its position on the matter to avoid speculations among economic actors.

But when contacted, minister of energy Mathew Nkhuwa declined to give a position on the matter and referred all queries to ministry of energy spokesperson, Mwape Chipala.
