The ongoing data cleaning exercise of the 1m title deeds in the country by the Ministry of Lands has uncovered half a million titles which have missing critical data.

Lands Minister ELIJAH MUCHIMA says the 500,000 title deeds have either National Registration Card numbers, email or phone numbers missing, making it difficult for officers to verify them.

Mr. MUCHIMA says the missing data has made the cleaning process difficult as the property owners cannot be contacted.

Speaking at a press briefing today at Mulungushi House, Mr. MUCHIMA said the ongoing data cleaning had also found out that two thousand five hundred records which were lodged before the Ministry migrated last month to the new system Zambia Integrated Lands
dministration System -ZILAS.

He says in the previous system Zambia Integrated Lands Information Management System -ZILMIS, there was a lot of manipulation, double allocations and changing of title deeds without authority.

Mr. MUCHIMA says government decided to do away with ZILMIS because it became a security risk as it was easily manipulated.
