Dangote, CEC Seal Power Deal

Dangote Cement Zambia Limited has completed the “power sale agreement” with the Copperbelt Energy Corporation -CEC-.Dangote Cement Zambia Limited Chief Executive Officer, Albert Corcos says CEC has agreed to purchase between eight and ten megawatts of power from the company’s thermal power plant.Speaking at a media briefing held at the plant in Masaiti district today, Mr. Corcos said Dangote Cement Zambia Limited is currently working on a project through which power will be transmitted to CEC.He said works on the project have since advanced adding that it is expected to be completed by December this year.Mr. Corcos said materials for constructing the 66-KV towers are currently on site while the construction of a substation is at 30 percent.He said Dangote Cement Zambia Limited will be ready to deliver power in the network, which is under construction, next year.Mr. Corcos has however declined to disclose how much the company will be selling power to CEC per kilowatt.Meanwhile, Mr. Corcos disclosed that the fluctuation of the Kwacha against major international currencies has negatively affected his company’s business.He said the company depends on imported materials and spare parts to run the plant.
