MTN-FAZ Super Division side, Power Dynamos, have appointed Dan Kabwe as head coach on a three-year contract.
Kabwe, who is Zambia Football Coaches Association (ZAFCA) president, replaces Tenant Chilumba on a three-year renewable contract and with a challenge of ensuring Power challenges for silverware.
Power secretary Ricky Mamfunda said in an interview that Kabwe is expected to start work on Monday and will be assisted by Anderson Phiri and Alex Namazaba, who have been in-charge of the team in the interim capacity.
“The contract is performance-based, and management is ready to support him if he seeks to release or recruit new players as we are giving him an opportunity to access the material of players he wants,” Mamfunda said.
Mamfunda said the club has full confidence in Kabwe because he is exactly what the club was looking for when selecting a coach. He thanks Phiri and Namazaba for picking positive results when they were put in charge of the team.
Kabwe, who was by Press time yesterday yet to sign his contract, refused to comment stating the deal was yet to be concluded.
Meanwhile, Napsa Stars coach Tennant Chilumba has urged his players to begin winning matches if they are to survive relegation starting with this afternoon’s MTN-FAZ Super League Week 15 match away at ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers.
Sitting second from bottom with 13 points, Chilumba expects Napsa to pick three points and move out of the relegation zone and pile pressure on sides playing at the weekend.
“I am confident that all will go well, I have a good team and the technical team has been so supportive since I came here so together we shall bring good results. We are not in a good position currently so we just have to start recording points,” Chilumba said.
Napsa will be boosted by their 0-0 draw against leaders Nkana at the weekend and will hope to reduce the gap on their hosts to one point save Wanderers coach Mulenga Mwape has promised the Lusaka side a tough match.
Mwape said in an interview from Mufulira yesterday that his team will use home ground advantage and carry the day.
A win will see Wanderers, who battled to a 2-all draw against Lumwana, move into eighth place, a point ahead of Forest Rangers.
