COVID-19 TESTS INCREASED TO 5,000 A DAY

By Sharon Kunda-Zambia has expanded the number of Covid 19 tests conducted in a day to 5,000.

Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has disclosed that Government has invested in new equipment and that this should come into effect by Monday October 5, 2020.

Dr. Chilufya says the new equipment will increase the country’s testing capacity and results will be released more quickly.

He was speaking during the routine updates on Covid-19 in Lusaka today.

And Dr. Chilufya said a general downward trend in the number of infections has continued being recorded at all surveillance points in health facilities and communities.

He said 19 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the last 24 hours from 1,158 tests conducted.

Dr. Chilufya said no deaths were recorded and 37 patients were discharged.

He said 36 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities and that 23 are on oxygen.

Dr. Chilufya said a countrywide sero-prevalence survey will be conducted in the next few weeks and that re-enforced surveillance activities at border points will be implemented to protect the country against new infections.

And Zambia National Public Health Institute Director Victor Mukonka said the reduction in covid-19 cases does not mean that the pandemic is over and stressed the need for continued adherence to public health measures.
