Covid 19 school supplies distribution starts

Sharon Kunda-Government has commenced the distribution of COVID-19 supplies to schools countrywide.This is in readiness for the reopening of schools for examination classes on 1st June, 2020.Vice President INONGE WINA has flagged off the first batch of Covid 19 supplies consisting of approximately 80 thousand reusable masks and other preventive equipment to schools in Lusaka Province at the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- offices.Speaking during the event, Mrs. WINA said this will be followed by dispatches from Provincial centres to all schools countrywide on Friday May 29, 2020.She stated that Government has put in place all necessary measures to ensure that school children are safe.Mrs. WINA implored all school authorities to ensure that measures put in place by Government are strictly adhered to and sustained.She said DMMU has also mobilized food items such as mealie meal and beans to assist boarding schools with the immediate requirements for re-opening.Mrs. WINA expressed happiness that DMMU has engaged small scale entrepreneurs to supply face masks in all provinces and directed that the initiative be further decentralised to Districts.And DMMU National Coordinator CHANDA KABWE informed the Vice President that people in flood affected areas are still squatting in classrooms and that they have to be moved before schols reopen.Mr. KABWE said DMMU has to that effect concluded procurement of roofing materials to assist the flood victims rebuild their houses.He said DMMU will also work on schools whose roofs were blown off and affected health facilities within flood areas.
