COVID-19 INFECTIONS SLOWS DOWN

The Government says it is delighted with the sustained downward trend in the number of Covid 19 cases being recorded daily.

Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO says it is gratifying to note that admissions have also declined.

Ms MASEBO has praised the public for their compliance to the five golden rules which have resulted in a reduction in community transmission.

Speaking during the Covid 19 update in Lusaka today, Ms MASEBO emphasised the need to continue observing the health guidelines because the 4th wave is not over.

She further said only 20 percent of the eligible population has been vaccinated in Zambia.

MEAMWHILE, Ms MASEBO urged people to be alert and continue adhering to health guidelines against cholera because it would be devastating to have a cholera epidemic along with the Covid 19 pandemic.

She said the country has so far not recorded any cholera cases but there is need to up key cholera control components to avoid an outbreak.

AND Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in charge of Technical Services LACKSON KASONKA said the country is well prepared for testing kits and that they will NOT run out.

Professor KASONKA further urged citizens not to compare the relaxed Covid 19 measures in the United Kingdom because it is at a different level of vaccination.

Infectious Diseases Director, LLOYD MULENGA attributed the reduction in the number of new Covid-19 cases to compliance to the five golden rules, vaccination and change in the weather patterns.

In the last 24 hours the country has recorded 2 hundred and 94 cases out of 2 thousand one hundred and 19 tests.
