COVID-19: EMBRACE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

By Angela Limwanya:

Southern Province Ambassador for Forestry and Nature Conservation, Benjamin Mibenge has praised Livingstone residents for slowly adopting good waste management practices as a way of mitigating climate change.

Mr. Mibenge has told ZNBC News that he has observed a general mindset change among the residents of the Tourist Capital and that many are collecting instead of burning garbage.

He said it is gratifying to see how residents have also improved in taking care of their environment through practices such as tree planting and keeping the city clean and green.

Mr. Mibenge also praised civic leaders in Livingstone for spearheading various tree-planting and cleaning programmes that help remind residents of the need to take care of the environment.

And a youth volunteer under a Non- Governmental Organisation, Environment Africa, Ireen Ng’andu said the outbreak of the COVID-19 has presented most youths an opportunity to engage themselves in productive activities that promote environmental protection.

She has urged families in Livingstone to incorporate young people in activities that help protect the environment for them to carry on the responsibility when they are older.
