COVID-19: 468, 620 PEOPLE VACCINATED

468, 620 people have been fully vaccinated against the Covid-19 in Zambia as of October 11.

Ministry of Health Director, Health Promotion, Abel Kabalo, has said this in an interview with ZNBC News on the sidelines of the Covid-19 vaccines town hall sensitization meeting, organized by the African Union through the Economic, Social and Cultural Council ECOSOCC, in Chipata.

Dr. Kabalo says of the total vaccinated number, two hundred and forty-eight thousand, six hundred and Twenty-five are males while two hundred and nineteen thousand, nine hundred and ninety-five are females.

The figures represent fifty three percent for males and forty seven percent for females.

Two hundred and eighty-five thousand, nine hundred and twelve accounts for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine and one hundred and seventy six thousand, three hundred and seventy two for the AstraZeneca while six thousand, three hundred and thirty six is for the Sinopharm vaccine.

Government is targeting to vaccinate eight point four  million eligible people aged 18 and above or seventy percent of the eligible population.

And speaking in a separate interview, Girl Guide Association of Zambia, Eastern Province Commissioner, Joyce Mwale has encouraged women to take the lead in getting the Covid-19 vaccine.

Mrs. Mwale says the vaccines are safe and the women folk in the country should take advantage of the available vaccines in the  country to get protection from the Covid-19.

She has further urged them to spread the news to their families and communities for the country to attain significant numbers in the vaccine administration.

In another interview, Justina Manda, a Chipata trader has encouraged women and men in the country to ignore social media propaganda against the Covid-19 vaccines.

Ms. Manda who has taken the first jab of the AstraZeneca vaccine says prevention is better than cure.

The country recently revised downwards its Covid 19 vaccination target from seventy percent to thirty percent by December 2021.

President Hakainde Hichilema during the recent Covid 19 vaccination campaign re-launch expressed concern at the low rate of the vaccine intake by citizens in the country.
