COSAFA WCL: Green Buffaloes settle in Durban ahead of Sunday’s clash

Zambia’s representatives at the 2022 COSAFA Women’s Champions League zonal qualifier, Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club has arrived in Durban. 

The team that left Lusaka a little after 11:30 arrived in Durban at the King Shaka International Airport at 16:00 aboard a Zambia Airforce (ZAF) flight. 

The team has since set up base at the Garden Court South Beach Hotel as they relax and recover  ahead of a busy schedule.

The Charles Haalubono coached side are without Copper Princesses skipper Lubasi Pumulo who has a fractured leg. 

The team is however bolstered by the availability of Copper Queens’ contigent of defenders Anita Mulenga, Lushomo Mweemba, Martha Tembo, and Agness Musesa, Midfielder magician Irene  ‘Xavi” Lungu, the female computer and striker Natasha Nanyangwe.

Mboo reached the semifinals last year before being eliminated by the eventual champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and have set their sights on winning the tournament this year.

The Zambian champions are in Group B alongside Olympic de Moroni from Comoros and Young Buffaloes of Eswatini whom they face in the opening match on Sunday 7 August at 15h30 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

Charles Haalubono’s lasses will be looking to win the tournament and secure qualification for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League to be held in Morocco. 

This is the second time they are taking part in the COSAFA Women’s Champions League, having reached the semifinals last year before losing 1-0 to eventual champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The COSAFA Women’s Champions League will run from 7-13 August in Durban, South Africa.
