Corruption perceptions index score welcomed
By Masauso Mkwayaya
Civil society organisations and members of the public have welcomed Zambia’s improved corruption perceptions index score.
The Jesuit Center for Theological Reflection -JCTR- says the country’s improved corruption perceptions index score means more resources are being freed from a few selfish people to the masses.
JCTR – Executive Director ALEX MUYEBE says the people of Zambia should congratulate themselves for the improved score because corruption is an ugly vice which affects the poorest in society.
In an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka,, Father MUYEBE however said Government needs to ensure recommendations such as the implementation of the Access to Information Act are followed to the latter.
And Action Aid Zambia said the various judicial reforms instituted by Government have contributed to the improvement of the corruption perception index score released by the Transparency International -TI-Z on Tuesday.
Action Aid Zambia Head of Programmes MUSONDA KABINGA said the establishment of the Financial Crimes Court and the handling of corruption cases in line with the mandate of the Courts, has also helped to improve the rating.
In another interview, the Institute of Internal Auditors called for more support to the Anti Corruption Commission –ACC- and other law enforcement institutions in order to enhance the fight against corruption.
Institute Spokesperson SAMMY MICHEELO said agencies that deal in corruption and law enforcement need more funding if the Country is to continue improving in the fight against corruption.
