Copperbelt Residents Dissatisfied With Government’s Handling Of The Security Situation In The Province

By Michael Kaluba

Some Copper belt residents in Ndola and Kitwe have expressed mixed feelings with the handling of the security situation in the province.

It has been three months since the sporadic gas attacks of residents started in Chingola district before spreading to other parts of the country, resulting in mob justice which has claimed more than 43 lives and living many others injured according to police.

And in random interviews with Phoenix News, some Ndola and Kitwe residents are concerned that it had to take the state to deploy soldiers to reduce cases of gas attacks in the province.

They have wondered and questioned the ability of the Zambia police to stop and prevent civil unrest in the country.

Others are however happy with the deployment of solders to contain the situation and acknowledged that cases of gas attacks have drastically reduced on the Copper belt.

The residents have however appealed to Zambia army officers deployed to man the province to be professional as they conduct their patrols and avoid abusing and beating innocent citizens.
