The Copper Queens debut appearance at the leading international sporting event, The Olympics will be delayed for approximately one more year due to the worldwide outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus.

This follows the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and local Organising Committees official confirmation that the Olympics will now take place from Friday 23rd July to Sunday 8th August 2021.

“The leaderships of the key parties came together via telephone conference earlier today, joined by IOC President Thomas Bach, Tokyo 2020 President Mori Yoshirō, Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko and Olympic and Paralympic Minister Hashimoto Seiko, and agreed on the new schedule.” read a statement on the official website.

However, the athletes (including the Copper Queens) who have already qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will keep their slots.

Zambia beat Cameroon 2-1 at Nkoloma Stadium on 10th March thanks to goals from Mary Mwakapila and Hellen Mubanga to seal their qualification to the Olympics on away goals rule following a 3-2 loss in the first leg.

The 2020 Japan summer Olympic Games were originally scheduled for 24 July to 9 August 2020, before being postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
