Copper Queens date Netherlands in International friendly match

The Zambia Women’s national team will play a top international friendly match next month against the Netherlands Women’s national team.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed in a statement monitored by the ZamFoot Crew. 

“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to announce that it has jointly organized an international friendly match with the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) between the Orange Lionesses and the Copper Queens on October 6 in Breda.”

Oranje and the Copper Queens faced each other at the Olympics  with the former winning by 10-3, Barbra Banda netting a hat-trick.

Coach Bruce Mwape is expected to name a star studded squad for the assignment with the likes of Ireen ‘Xavi’ Lungu, Evarine Susan Katongo, Ochumba Oseke Lubanji, Lushomo Mweemba, Martha Tembo and a number of foreign based players. 

The Copper Queens will face Netherlands on 6th October  at 6.45 pm in the stadium of NAC Breda.

Netherlands captain Sherida Spitse is expected to lead the squad having missed the Olympics due to a knee injury. 

Other stars like Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema who is the Orange Lionesses’ all-time top goalscorer with 73 goals to her name is another one expected to face the Queens. 

Jackie Groenen, Daniëlle van de Donk, Shanice van de Sanden, Lieke Martens, and Jill Roord are other Oranje Lionesses stars who are expected to turn up for the assignment. 

The game is being used as part of preparations for the 2023 New Zealand and Australia FIFA Women’s World Cup. 

The Copper Queens started their preps with the 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship which they won with skipper Barbra Banda netting ten goals to emerge as top goalscorer and player of the tournament.
