COPPER QUEEN IN ACTION AT AWCON

By Chansa Kunda

The Copper Queens will this afternoon commence their pursuit for a slot at the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations -AWCON- when they face Malawi in the first round, first leg qualifier.

The game will be played at the Bingu National stadium in Lilongwe with kickoff slated for 15:00 hours.

The encounter, which will be a great test of character and experience, brings together two teams who are in desperate need for qualification to the AWCON following this year’s COSAFA misfortune.

Malawi who bagged a silver after losing to winners Tanzania face bronze medalist, Zambia who beat South Africa on post match penalties to finish third at the 2021 Women’s COSAFA Cup.

And according to the Football Association of Zambia -FAZ- Website, this will be Zambia’s hunt for a fourth appearance at the tournament to be held in Morocco next year.

Winner of the fixture in both legs will qualify to the second and final round where they will either face Tanzania or Namibia.

The reverse fixture is set for the 26th of October 2021 at the Nkoloma stadium.
