Contractors Warned Over Not Subcontracting

August 20, 2019August 20, 201912By Patrick Mulenga-Housing and Infrastructure Development Minister Vincent Mwale says government will not hesitate to terminate contracts for contractors not abiding by the 20 percent subcontracting policy.Speaking when he paid an impromptu visit on the AVIC Construction site on Mungwi road, Mr Mwale said his office is in receipt of the petition from small and medium scale contractors concerning AVIC’s noncompliance to the policy.Mr. Mwale said government will not allow foreign contractor breach government policies at will.He however tasked the Road Development Agency -RDA-to compile a report on all the construction companies with running contracts on their compliance levels where the 20 percent sub-contracting policy is concerned.Meanwhile, AVIC International Country Representative, CUI JI refuted the allegations by the Small-Scale contractors saying that the company is complying with the policy.Mr. CUI said AVIC respects government policies and will never do anything to disrespect the government.He explained that the company has more than 48 subcontractors working on various projects.
