Colombia edge Copper Queens to complete a double

The Colombia Women’s national team completed a double over the Zambia Women’s national team in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Power Puff Girls edged the Copper Queens 1-0 in both their International Friendly matches.

Coach Bruce Mwape made six changes to the team that lost by a slender 1-0 scoreline on Sunday.

Pauline Zulu, Catherine Musonda, Misozi Zulu, Mary Wilombe, Rhoda Chileshe and Xiomara Mapepa were handed a starting berth.

Like the first match it was the hosts who looked to settle early on putting the Copper Queens under pressure.

The Power Puff Girls were awarded a penalty in the 19th minute after Catherine Musonda hacked Elexa Bahr in the box.

Mayra Ramirez stepped up and easily dispatched it to put the hosts in the lead.

Zambia pushed to get back into the match with Grace Chanda and Rachel Kundananji leading the charge.

The Copper Queens came close especially in the second half but could not find a way past the South American side.

Both Zambia and Colombia were using the match to prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The Copper Queens are in Group C alongside Spain, Japan and Costa Rica while Colombia will face Germany, Morocco and South Korea in Group H at the ninth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
