COLLAPSED BUILDING WAS ILLEGAL-NCC

By Fortune Malata-Preliminary investigations into the building that collapsed in Lusaka’s Libala Township yesterday have revealed that the materials used to construct the structure were substandard.

This is according to the National Council for Construction, NCC.

Speaking to ZNBC News in Lusaka today, NCC Executive Director Mathews Ngulube said the construction site in question is illegal and that the contractor together with the engineers involved are not registered.

Mr. Ngulube said investigations into the matter and final results will be released soon.

Meanwhile, one of the survivors, Akushanga Mwimamenwa has been discharged from the University Teaching Hospital.

One person died, while 2 others sustained serious injuries, after the building collapsed on them at Katungu market in Lusaka.
