Lusaka, Zambia24 (3-06-2024) – Lawyers representing Levy Ngoma, President Hakainde Hichilema’s special assistant for political affairs, have filed a complaint against three senior members of the opposition United Kwacha Alliance (UKA).

The UKA members are accused of spreading malicious falsehoods suggesting Ngoma’s involvement in the alleged abduction of independent MP Jay Jay Banda.

Chanza Sikazwe, of Chanza Sikazwe Law Firm, stated that the accusations have injured Ngoma’s reputation and are entirely false and defamatory.

Sikazwe emphasized that Ngoma had no involvement in the alleged abduction and that the statements circulating against him are unfounded and harmful.

The primary purpose of addressing this situation publicly is to protect Ngoma’s right to a good reputation.

Sikazwe cautioned the public against spreading falsehoods, which can have severe and lasting impacts on individuals’ lives and careers.

He emphasized the importance of handling sensitive matters with integrity and adherence to the rule of law.

Sikazwe stated that a proper investigation is critical to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served.

He expressed confidence in the police’s ability to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.

Ngoma has filed a formal report to protect his reputation, demonstrating his commitment to due process and confidence in the legal system.

Sikazwe noted that defamation harms individuals and undermines societal trust, and the dissemination of false information can lead to legal repercussions.

The goal is to restore Ngoma’s integrity and allow the truth to emerge through proper legal channels.

The police will conduct an independent investigation, and any additional information will be released at their discretion to avoid compromising the investigation.
