Clatous Chota Chama omission explained

Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant explained the omission of Tanzania based midfielder Clatous Chota Chama in his provisional squad for the back to back World Cup qualifiers against Morocco and Tanzania.

Grant who was speaking during a press conference at Football House on Monday afternoon said it was unfortunate that he will not have the Simba SC midfielder as he just started training after sustaining an injury.

Chama and Saudi Arabia based Fashion Sakala are the two major misses from the team.

Meanwhile the Israeli gaffer also revealed that Red Arrows captain Benedict Chepeshi is out with an injury hence his omission from the team.

“The squad is not final, we will fly to Morocco with 23 players , we hope for a good game. except for Benedict Chepeshi who is injured and Clatous Chota Chama who came back to training last week. We can not use him, which is unfortunate because he was fantastic in the tournament in Malawi and I nominated him as captain for one of the games,” he said.

Grant recently announced a 27 member provisional squad which will enter camp later this week to start preparations.

Zambia are currently second in group E after beating Congo Brazzaville 4-2 on Match Day one before losing 2-1 to Niger on Match Day 2.

Winners of each Group will automatically qualify for the FIFA World Cup™ 2026.

The four best runners-up (from the Groups) will play in a CAF Play-Off tournament.

The winner of the CAF Play-Off Tournament will play in the FIFA Play-off Tournament.
