CITY COUNCIL CLOSES CHURCH

By Frank Ching’ambu:The Ndola City Council has closed Restoration Pentecostal Apostolic Church for defying the Presidential order on churches not to allow gatherings of more than 50 people during church service, in view of COVID 19.Ndola Council Public Relations Manager, Tilyenji Mwanza confirmed the development to ZANIS.Copperbelt Province Minister, Japhen Mwakalombe flanked by a combined team from Ndola City Council and state police went round the City of Ndola to check on compliance levels from bar owners, church leaders and restaurants.And Mr. Mwakalombe has warned Restoration Pentecostal Apostolic Church Pastor James Mwale, popularly known as Yakobo Yakobo, to abide by the directive.He said in as much as Zambia is a Christian nation, church leaders should not take advantage and do things their own way.On Saturday, Police picked up Pastor Mwale and some of his Church elders, detaining the group at Ndola Central Police Station for defying the law even after being cautioned many times not to assemble.Meanwhile, Northern regional coordinator for Independent Churches of Zambia, Prophet Charles Mumba has condemned Pastor MWALE’s behaviour.Prophet Mumba said the church, as government’s partner, should always ensure that its actions do not frustrate the State’s efforts especially during the current period of the COVID 19 pandemic.
