Church Holds Meeting With Presidential Candidates
The three church mother bodies had another round of meetings with the political parties whose leaders successfully filed nominations for the August 11 general elections.
Top on the agenda was the ugly spectre of political violence that the church sought to guide against in the last round of meetings spearheaded by the Catholic bishops in league with other churches.
The meeting sought to urge the political party leaders to guide their members to stay away from acts of violence that could put the credibility of the election and peace of the nation at risk.
There was however that notable absence by the ruling Patriotic Front but the meeting will extend its resolutions with the governing party.
Among the political parties that attended were the Forum for Democracy and Development, Rainbow Party, Green Party and the United Party for National Development.
Observers have expressed concern over the increased incidents of violence largely between the PF and the UPND that have not only bloodied each other but also caused damage to property.
