Green Eagles boss Aggrey Chiyangi has been criticised by many people for being a defensive-minded coach but on Saturday, The Chipolopolo stand-in coach took time to explain his approach to games.

Chiyangi told a press conference following his teams CAF Champions league preliminary round first-leg win over South Africa PSL giants Orlando Pirates that he always access the players he has and what approach would work for them.

“What you need to understand is that in football there are reasons for everything for example if I decide to play attacking football you need to understand what are the reasons that come with attacking football can we manage with the players we have ? or we can manage if we say let us catch them on a counter. You have to access all those things and that’s what we do as coaches. When we play like that it’s because I have assessed my team the weaknesses and strengths then I decide what we should play, ” He said.

“There is no way you can play ninety minutes defending. When you lose the ball you defend and when you regain possession you start attacking and that’s how we are going to play, ” he added.

His captain Gift Wamundila has promised the fans that the team will progress to the next round. He believes the first leg win was just a tip of the iceberg regarding what the Choma based side are able to do.

Most definitely we will do (qualify to the next round). What we have done to the day we have just shown you that we are moving up that’s why we are called Tonka Twende ‘Push we go’ so we pushing we and we are going-Wamundila

Spencer Sautu second-half strike was the difference as Eagles stunned Orlando Pirates by a lone goal. The two will face off in the second leg in two weeks time.
