CHISOKONE FIRE REGRETTABLE – NGULUBE

By Clinton Masumba

Local Government Permanent Secretary, Matthew Ngulube says the gutting of over 10 shops at Chisokone market, in Kitwe on the Copperbelt, is regrettable and correct measures will be taken to avoid the reoccurrence of the incident.

Speaking when he checked on the gutted shops, Mr. Ngulube has tasked the Kitwe City Council to ensure electrification of shops is done professionally, as the fire is being attributed to an electrical fault.

He says government has remained committed to upgrading markets and Chisokone is not an exception, in order to give traders a befitting trading environment.

Meanwhile, Kitwe District Commissioner, Chileshe Bweupe has said the council has been directed to monitor reconnection of electricity to ensure it is done professionally.

And Kitwe Town Clerk, Mbulo Seke has urged traders to consider insuring their products to lessen the burden on government whenever they lose their property through fires.
