Chipata Police Arrest 3 in K108, 000 Theft

Police in Chipata have arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of K108 000 at the second class trading area popularly known as Down Shops.

Outgoing Eastern Province Commissioner of Police Alex Chilufya named those arrested as Chris Mbewe 38, Edward Phiri 41 and Chris Banda 29.

Chilufya said the suspects are alleged to have broken into a shop belonging to Younus Suleiman between 22:00 hours on Monday and 05:00 hours on Tuesday.

He said the criminals managed to break the safe box and stole cash amounting to K108 000.

Chilufya said the entry and exit to the shop was accessed through the back wall adding that criminals used unknown explosives to break it.

He said police have managed to recover some household goods and some money from the suspects.

Meanwhile, Police have launched a manhunt for Nebert Sakala for allegedly being in possession of counterfeit notes.

Chilufya said Sakala went to Cavmont Bank Chipata branch to transact and had in possession forged bank notes amounting to K5 100 and that the matter was later reported to the police by Kalulu Kapalu 36 the Bank Manager.

He said a docket has since been opened.
