Chingola man murders wife, takes own life

A man of Chiwempala township in Chingola has hacked his wife to death and later committed suicide by throwing himself in front of a moving truck, reports Greenwell Nyirenda.

The man identified as Lakabu Simukoko, age unknown, of House number 28 Nalumango Street, Chiwempala, hacked his wife Gertrude Mpundu Simukoko (pictured) in the early hours of Tuesday, March 5, 2019.

Simukoko, who had reportedly been experiencing marital problems with his wife, allegedly started playing loud music around 04:30 hours to the amazement of neighbors.

At about 05:00 hours, Simukoko’s oldest daughter identified as Izukanji went to check on her parents to enquire on the loud music, only to find her mother lying in the pool of blood and her father nowhere to be seen.

Information gathered indicates that Simukoko later threw himself at a moving truck along the Solwezi -Chingola Road.

Both bodies are lying at Nchanga North General Hospital Mortuary.

Meanwhile, Chingola’s Chiwempala residents have bemoaned the high number of violence and abuse against women in the area. The residents, mostly women who spoke in unison, complained about the high number of cases of physical abuse suffered by married women.
