Chinese Nationals Allegedly Encroach Land Reserved For Agriculture Activities By Ndola City Council

Some Chinese nationals have allegedly encroached 10 hectors of land out of the 870 hectors in Chichele forest which has been reserved for agriculture activities by Ndola City Council.

The development was revealed to Ndola City Council Town Clerk Wisdom Bwalya who visited the site Wednesday by the residents.

According to the residents, some Chinese nationals have been seen demarcating the said land despite not being accompanied by officials from the local authority.

But Mr Bwalya expressed ignorance on the matter although he confirmed that the land in question has been demarcated.

He has however assured that the local authority will follow up the matter with ministry of lands to establish if there are any records of the Chinese nationals buying the said land.

Meanwhile, some residents of chichele ward have also encroached parts of the said land.

But Ndola Mayor Amon Chisenga has called on the ruling Patriotic Front in Ndola District to dissolve the party ward development committee which he said has been spearheading the illegal sell of land.

Chichele Forest Reserve is a forest reserve located in Copperbelt, along the Ndola-Kitwe dual carriageway with an estimated terrain elevation above sea level of 1305 meters.

It was in this area where United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold, who was on a peace mission, died in a plane crash on September 18, 1961.

The plantation has of late been used by criminals who terrorized innocent citizens, while motorists were waylaid and their belongings seized.
