China interested in reviving TAZARA

Transport and Logistics Minister FRANK TAYALI says China has declared interest to help Zambia and Tanzania commercialise the Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority -TAZARA.

Mr. TAYALI says TAZARA’s infrastructure is still intact and only requires minor improvements to the locomotives and wagons.

Speaking in an interview with ZNBC news, Mr. TAYALI said Government however needs to do massive recapitalisation at Zambia Railways and infrastructure overhaul.

He revealed that Government is in talks with potential equity partners.

Meanwhile, the Transport Minister said the Aviation Sector is rebounding significantly after being hard-hit during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Mr. TAYALI said there is an increase in the number of passengers coming into the country.

He said Government has been facilitating for international airlines to come into the Country and that Lufthansa was recently given rights to fly from Germany to Lusaka enroute to Cape Town.

Mr. TAYALI said Mozambique Airlines is also scheduled to start flying to Zambia soon following discussions between the leaders of the two countries.
