Chief MUMENA wants employment act amended

By Justine Kawisha

Chief MUMENA of the Kaonde people of Kalumbila District in North Western Province has appealed to government to urgently amend the employment act to address areas that disadvantage locals from getting jobs in the private sector.

Chief MUMENA says traditional leaders gave up their land for development projects such as mines to benefit their people.

He has appealed to the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management to closely monitor how their members are handling employment issues to ensure a level playing field.

Chief MUMENA was speaking when Labour and Social Security Minister BRENDA TAMBATAMBA paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Kalumbila District.

Meanwhile, Chief MUMENA has praised the New Dawn Administration for honouring the promise of decentralisation which gives power to the grassroots.

The Chief said it is a dream come true that local people can now decide on their own projects that they want unlike in the past where projects were imposed.

He said Traditional Leaders in North Western Province are committed to working with President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA to fulfil his development agenda.

And Ms. TAMBATAMBA pledged President HICHILEMA’s commitment to working closely with traditional leaders in fostering development and fighting corruption.
