CHIEF MAGODI’S AREA GRAPPLES WITH EARLY MARRIAGES

Chief Magodi’s area in Chasefu district in Eastern Province has continued to record a high number of girls falling out of school, due to early marriages and pregnancies.

Gumba Primary School PTA Chairperson Wycliff Phiri says the primary school alone has recorded over 12 girls dropping out due to either early marriages or teen pregnancies.

Mr. Phiri says the girls dropping out of school are between the ages of 15 and 20, of which most are in grades 6 and 7.

This Came to light when Chasefu Empowerment Support Trust Chairperson Misheck Nyambose donated cement towards the rehabilitation of teachers’ houses and classroom blocks.

And Mr. Nyambose has bemoaned the increase in child marriages and pregnancies in the area and has since called for enhanced collaboration between traditional leaders, parents and teachers if the vice is to be mitigated.

He further said his organisation will continue to supplement Government efforts in ensuring development for all.

And Senior Headman Magodi of Chasefu District, Osward Mahachi commended the Chasefu Empowerment Support Trust for the gesture, saying it will go a long way in uplifting the lives of the community.
