CHIEF Jumbe of the Kunda people in Mambwe district and four other people were on Tuesday slapped with three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Oswell Zimba, who is chief Jumbe, Jeffrey Banda, Kenneth Mwale, James Yolamu and Victor Nsefu appeared before Chipata principal resident magistrate Jenifer Bwalya for explanation of the charge and mention. Chief Jumbe, Banda, who is his driver, Mwale and Yolamu, his retainer, and Nsefu, a businessman, are alleged to have assaulted Zakeyo Zulu, Nebert Muzenga Phiri, and Lazarous Shawa thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.
The accused are alleged to have committed the offence on September 19, 2018. The accused would only take plea in Mambwe where they allegedly committed the crime. Magistrate Bwalya adjourned the matter to December 12, 2018 for mention and extended the accused persons police bonds. Chief Jumbe was installed last year by senior chief Nsefu.
