CHIEF CHOOMA PLANTS TREES

Chief Chooma of the Tonga people in Choma District – Southern Province has called on all traditional leaders in the country to take a lead in promoting tree planting.
The traditional leader says subjects need to be discouraged from practicing unsustainable ways of farming  to avoid environmental degradation.
Chief Chooma who planted trees in Singani chiefdom says the effects of climate change in Southern province are very evident.
The Chief was speaking to NAIS in an interview when the Anti Burning campaign team headed by Chief Mumena of the Kaonde people from North Western province paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Choma.
Both Chief Chipepo of Siavonga and Chief Mumena have praised Chief Chooma for taking it upon himself to promote tree planting in his chiefdom as a way of mitigating the effects of climate in the District.
The Anti Burning campaign tour which is sponsored by First Quantum Minerals Limited is aimed at creating awareness on the dangers of bush burning and deforestation.
