THERE is need to set up an operating theatre at Chelstone Clinic since it has now been ranked to a hospital status, says Medical Superintendent Musole Chipoya.
Dr Chipoya said yesterday that there were serious challenges at the health facility especially at the maternity wing.
“It’s important that we handle emergency cases such as caesarian operations on our own instead of referring such cases to Levy Mwanawasa or University Teaching Hospital.
“We want to be offering those services, so that is why there is need for an operating theater within our hospital where surgical operations could be carried out in an disease-free environment,” explained Dr Chipoya
Meanwhile some residents in the area have expressed happiness that the health facility has since been ranked a zonal hospital adding that government should consider expanding the health facility as it had a bigger catchment area.
One of the residents Anna Silungwe said it was good that government was bringing the health services closer to the people and that they should expand the facility so that the people in the community can have access to more health care services.
“We are happy that government is bringing the health care services close to the people so what they need to do next is to expand the facility so that we can avoid accessing other health institutions” Ms Silungwe said.
