Health Minister Jonas Chanda has directed that all framework contacts for supply of drugs and consumables be renewed immediately.
Dr. Chanda says there is need not to neglect other diseases even as COVID cases have continued reducing.
The Minister has also directed the University Teaching Hospitals -UTH- to do a qualitative and quantitative expansion of dialysis units countrywide.
He was speaking when he toured the Dialysis unit at UTH.
Dr. Chanda has also assured Kidney patients that they will be prioritised under the National Health Insurance Management Authority -NHIMA- because they are emergency cases.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health Director Infectious Diseases Alex Makupe said capabilities of expertise are not at par which attracts more patients at UTH than other hospitals.
Dr. Makupe said 65 Dialysis machines are currently operational countrywide and more are yet to be procured.
And UTH Adult Hospital Senior Medical Superintendent Charles Muntemba said UTH is in the process of registering all renal patients under NHIMA.
And Kidney Foundation Chairperson Thabo Kawana thanked Government for coming to the aid of patients even during the tough COVID times.
