CHAN 2021: Zambia’s next group stage opponents Namibia dumped out

CHAN 2021 Group D Match Day 2: Namibia 0 – 1 Tanzania (Farid Musa)

Zambia’s next opponents in the ongoing CHAN 2021 competition Namibia have been booted out of the tournament after they lost 1 – 0 to Tanzania on Saturday evening.

Both Namibia and Tanzania went into their second match knowing a loss would mark the end of the road having lost their opening games.

It was a tightly contested affair with the two teams going into the break scoreless.

Tanzania took the lead in the 65th minute through former Spanish side Tenerife striker Farid Musa.

They held on to their first goal of the tournament till the end to ensure they have a say in the qualification for the quarter finals.

The results implies that Tanzania, Zambia and Guinea can all qualify to the next round. However, Tanzania have the onerous task of beating Guinea to have a chance of going through.

Namibia will play Zambia in their final group game at the Limbe Stadium on Wednesday while Guinea travel to the Stade de la Réunification in Douala to face Tanzania in the matches that will be played simultaneously.

The win by Tanzania favors Zambia as the separation criteria for any two teams tied at the end of the group stage prioritizes head to head. However, Zambia will need at least a draw against Namibia to be sure of qualifying though a loss would suffice if results in the game between Tanzania and Guinea go there way.
