The Zambia Chamber of Mines has dismissed the 3.7 percent rise in copper production as recently announced by government for the first 6 months of the year 2020.

Government on Wednesday announced that Zambia’s copper production for the first half of 2020 rose by 3.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

But Chamber of Mines Chief Executive Officer Sokwani Chilembo argues that this does not reflect the prevailing true picture of the mining industry in the country.

Mr Chilembo has told Phoenix News that there has been a reduction of over 30 percent in revenue on the export side of mining.

He however says the chamber remains positive that 764, 811 metric tons of copper will be produced this year against the 850, 000 metric tons projection due to challenges which include the failure by the government to pay value added tax refunds to mining companies.
