CASSAVA BROWN STEAK VIRUS STRIKES

The Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed the outbreak of Cassava Brown steak virus in Luapula, Northern and North-Western provinces.
Minister of Agriculture Michael Katambo says reputable surveys performed in Chiengi, Kaputa, Kabompo, Zambezi, Solwezi and Chavuma maintain established the existence of the illness in the districts.
Mr. Katambo says the illness is a threat to the nation’s food security because cassava is the 2nd most important food prick after maize.
He says the Ministry would require about 5.5 million Kwacha to successfully organize and comprise the illness.
