C/belt UPND Youth welcome suspension of mine dump sites activities

Tamara Muswala-UPND Youths on the Copperbelt are in support of the decision by minister of mines PAUL KABUSWE to suspend operations at all mine dump sites in the country.

UPND Copperbelt Provincial Chairperson DANIEL KAMENGA says this is because over the years the mine dump sites only benefited a few individuals at the expense of the majority of youths.

Mr. KAMENGA said the suspension of mining activities in the dump sites is a good move because it will give time to government and other stakeholders to reorganize the activities so that they can be done in a more organized manner.

He was speaking at a media briefing in Kitwe.

And UPND district Chairperson BOWAS KAPATA has urged the youth to form cooperatives.

Mr. KAPATA said Cooperatives will help in bringing sanity and benefit the majority youths in the province.

Meanwhile, UPND Provincial vice Chairperson KANGWA KAMANDO said the youths on the Copperbelt are aware of plans to hold protests against the suspension of mining activities in the dump sites.

Mr. KAMONDO said what the ministry has done is in good faith and wants every youth on the Copperbelt to benefit from the ore rich minerals unlike the way it was conducted in the past where only a few individuals benefited.
