Bus Operators Yet To Decide Whether Or Not To Increase Fares Following Hike In Fuel Prices

By Phoenix staffer

Bus operators in Lusaka say they are yet to hold a meeting to decide whether or not to hike bus fares following the recent increase in fuel pump prices by the Energy Regulation Board –ERB-.

Bus operators’ Association Chairperson, Ishmael Kankara, who is also Capital Buses proprietor has told Phoenix News that despite the hike in fuel pump prices being minimal, it will still affect the cost of operations.

Mr. Kankara however said the bus operators understand the hike in fuel prices, a move which little can be done because it is not only in Zambia where this is happening but the world over.

He has however assured that should the bus operators go ahead to hike fares, they will be fair enough for everyone.

On Monday this week, the Energy Regulation Board announced a fuel pump price increase which saw the price of petrol increase by 78 ngwee per liter, diesel by 80 ngwee, kerosene by K1.68 and low sulfur gas by 80 ngwee.
