BUFFALO KILLS WOMAN

By Jonathan Mukuka:A 28-year -old woman of Chama district in Muchinga Province, has died after being attacked by a buffalo.Chama South Constituency Member of Parliament Davison Mung’andu has confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS ) in Chinsali .Mr. Mung’andu identified the woman as Zick Zimba of Kapichila Senga Village in Chief Chikwa of Chama South Constituency in Chama District.Mr. Mung’andu said the woman was attacked by the beast this morning as she was drawing water in a stream.He said the woman was severely injured and died shortly at a local health centre from the injuries she sustained in the attacked.The Law maker said the Department of Wild Life and National Parks has since been informed.Last week, Mr. Mung’andu raised concerns over the escalating levels of human – animal conflicts in his constituency.Mr. Mung’andu said wild animals especially elephants have been invading local villages such as Mapamba in Chief Chikwa where they are reportedly destroying crops adding that this would result in untold hunger in those areas.He appealed to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU ) to urgently distribute relief food to the affected areas in order to avert hunger.Some villages in Chama South Constituency have had their crops destroyed by elephants suspected to have come from North Luangwa National Park.
