Bishop Mwamba vows to unite Zambia

By Francis Maingaila

Lusaka – (3-03-21) – UNITED National Independence Party (UNIP)  presidential hopeful Dr. Trevor Mwamba has observed that more than ever before, Zambia today, needs a God-fearing leader capable of acting as a unifier and reconciler of a divided nation.

Dr. Mwamba, a servicing Bishop in the Zambia Anglican Council said in an exclusive interview in Lusaka that when he becomes president of UNIP, the former ruling party, which ruled for 27-years, he will not be re-invent new values meant to unite the people.

In an apparent reference to former First Republican President, Dr. Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda and peers, unity of purpose, Dr. Mwamba vowed to revive the One Zambia, One Nation concept, a value which guided Zambia toward prosperity.

Bishop Mwamba said this coming Thursday, he will announce his intention to contest the position of the party president in the former ruling party at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka and file his nominations on 7th March to contest the party presidency at the forthcoming general conference.

Bishop Mwamba is motivated to contest the position of the party president out of his desire to renew the former ruling party which he believes given good and qualitative leadership, can form government in the coming elections billed on Thursday 12th August 2021.

Once elected into office,  Bishop Mwamba  assured citizens that the UNIP government will focus on  values of integrity, empowerment, as socio-economic measures designed to improve the welfare of every Zambian.

“Once I am elected into office, policies will have the interests of Zambians at the centre of everything and build from there. The poverty confronting people are today is failure by the leaders to embrace the values which our founding fathers left behind. UNIP, under the new leadership, will be the conscience and light of the nation,” Bishop Mwamba assured.

Despite a difficult economic and disunity being witnessed, Bishop Mwamba recollected that Zambia was founded on values of love, plus equal sharing available human and material resources regardless of one’s geographical location.

Bishop Mwamba says it is disheartening to see a majority of citizens if not all people today in a country endowed with abundant natural resources; water, minerals and arable land, to name but three living in in abject poverty.

Bishop Mwamba observed that when UNIP was in control, it not only succeeded in building a united-state and but provided citizens with sustainable means of survival, and helped liberate  neighbouring countries ravaged by internal instabilities,  without losing focus on its national responsibilities.

It is the desire of Bishop Mwamba to restore Zambia’s original values where citizens will live as one and share public resources equally.
