The Ministry of Agriculture has opened the bids for local agro-dealers to supply fertilizer for the 2022/2023 farming season.

This follows President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s recent announcement while on the Copperbelt last month that Zambian suppliers will be prioritised in the tendering process.

Ministry of Agriculture Director Agribusiness and Marketing, JOHN MULONGOTI says in this coming farming season, government will be contracting firms to supply 307,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer.

Mr. MULONGOTI says the fertilizer will benefit 1,024,000 farmers across the country under the Agriculture Support Programme.

Speaking at a Pre-Bid meeting at the Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka , Mr MULONGOTI said from the targeted amount of fertilizer, 47,000 of Compound D will be supplied by the Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia to Central, Copperbelt and Lusaka Provinces.

He said the successful bidders will supply Compound D’ to the remaining seven provinces and urea to all the provinces.

Mr. MULONGOTI said 106,000 metric tonnes will be Compound D’ fertiliser while 153,000 metric tonnes will be urea.

Meanwhile, hundreds of agro-dealers attended the bid meeting and expressed hope that the process of tendering will benefit Zambians.
