BETUZ Doubts UPND Free Education Claim

UPND PostersThe Basic Education Teachers Union has cast doubt on the viability of the opposition United Party for National Development pledge for free education up to university level.

BETUZ president Cosmas Mukuka said the pledge was unattainable under the economic circumstances and was best left to politics.

Mukuka said the country could not dream of providing free education when providing primary school education was proving a challenge.

The UPND has been on the campaign trail pledging that they will provide free education up to university level.

“We think that promise is false and only meant to win votes,” he said.

“It is a sugar coated statement that sounds sweet like that but it cannot be attained. We in the education sector know how hard it has been with the provision of primary education.”
