Barbra Banda named in NWSL June team of the month

Copper Queens skipper Barbra Banda has been named in the National Women’s Soccer League team of the month for June.

The Copper Queens star played three games in June scoring two goals and setting up three goals.

She is joined in attack by Malawian forward Temwa Chawinga Kansas City and Mallory Swanson of Chicago Red Stars.

Lo’eau LaBonta of Kansas City, Rose Lavelle of Gotham FC and Croix Bethune  of Washington Spirit (who was also named as the rookie of the month) make up the midfield trio.

In defence Kansas City’s duo of Elizabeth Ball, and Izzy Rodriguez join Casey Krueger of Washington Spirit and 2023 Rookie of the year, Jenna Nighswonger to complete the back four.

Orlando Pride’s Anna Moorhouse is the goalkeeper named in the team.

Moorhouse recorded 20 saves, allowing just one goal throughout June, to help the Pride extend its undefeated run this season.

The England international has a save percentage of 95.24% throughout the month and recorded her third straight clean sheet in the club’s 3-0 victory over Angel City FC on June 30.

The National Women’s Soccer League is currently on recess and will resume after the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The NWSL Best XI of the Month, presented by Amazon Prime, is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis, and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.
