BALLOTS START ARRIVING

By Etambuyu Katota- The first batch of ballot papers and other election materials for the August 12, 2021 General Election has arrived in the country.

Several stakeholders witnessed the arrival of the ballot papers at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport from Dubai aboard an Emirates Sky Cargo airplane that touched down at 12:50 hours.

Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- Senior Public Relations Officer SYLVIA BWALYA says the consignment consists of 40 ballot papers for 40 constituencies, which includes presidential and National Assembly ballot papers.

Ms. BWALYA says another consignment is expected tomorrow for 69 constituencies and on Friday the final batch is will arrive.

She says on Saturday July 31, the commission will conduct the verification process of the ballot papers.

Ms. BWALYA was speaking during the arrival of the ballot papers at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka.

And Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of Operations CHARITY KATANGA said police officers have been deployed to ensure security is provided where ballot papers will be delivered to.

Ms. KATANGA said maximum security has also been provided in Silverest where the ballot papers are being stored.

She said police have been given strict instructions not to allow any unauthorised persons to the area.
