BABY DIES WITHIN HOSPITAL CORRIDORS

A newly born baby has died, after its mother allegedly gave birth to it in the corridors at Lusaka’s Chipata Level One Hospital.

This happened around 04 hours today, as the mother of the deceased infant, REBECCA PHIRI, aged 24, tried to move from the waiting room to the maternity ward.

Ms PHIRI, who was by then heavily pregnant, is believed to have been told to wait when she was taken to the hospital last night around 22 hours, as she was NOT due to deliver, despite her insistance.

Meanwhile, confusion reigned at the health facility as members of the general public accussed medical staff of neglecting Ms PHIRI.

A ZNBC news crew, which visited Chipata First Level Hospital found Ms PHIRI’s mother, CHUMA LUNGU, weeping uncontrollably as she demanded that nurses, who were on duty, to be disciplined.

Meanwhile, Lusaka Province Medical Officer, CONSITY MWALE says a team, from his office, has since been dispatched to ascertain what really happened, adding that a detailed report will be issued.
