AWCON 2020 canceled…As CAF announce the launch of Women’s Champions League in 2021

The continent’s football governing body, CAF confirmed the two decisions following an Executive Committee meeting held earlier today via video-conference.

The Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, 2020 which was originally scheduled to be held between 23rd November and 20th December 2020.

Due to challenging conditions, the 2020 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has been cancelled.

However its not all bad news for Women’s football after CAF confirmed that they will introduce the long awaited CAF Champions League in 2021.

“Meanwhile, the CAF Women’s Champions League will be launched in 2021. The format and other details will be communicated in due course.”

The Copper Queens are among teams who were expected to qualify to the 14th edition of the Total Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations.

Meanwhile top clubs like Green Buffaloes, Indeni Roses, Queens Academy and Red Arrows will be expected to battle for qualification to the inaugural Women’s inter-clubs tournament.
